What happens in Target (shouldn't always) stay in Target.

Yesterday was a good day to go to Target. Before I had Mariel, any day would have been a good day to go anywhere. But it seems lately the whole universe has conspired against me and made it nearly impossible for me to get out of the house (or at least within a reasonable time).
Just leaving the front door is work enough for me. Forget the days of just grabbing my keys and cute little wallet, I now have to be prepared for everything and that includes bringing everything, which means now that it looks more like I'm "moving out" instead of just "going out".

So yesterday I was determined to go out no matter what, and I did just that. With half of my home in tow (and of course Mariel) we finally made it to Target. And of course just as I arrive, the clock struck noon and so did her hunger. So I took out my Bebe au Lait Nursing Cover, just as any classy mother would, and I fed my baby right there between the clothing racks. Suddenly, while I was nursing a very concerned gentleman approached me and asked, "What would you give to a first time mother?”

I thought just for a quick second and spouted out a list of "much needed items" according to “me.” He listened then he started telling me more about the soon to be mother (which was his sister) and he mentioned that he wanted to give her something special, not just for the baby. He was carrying a baby monitor so I assumed he was looking for a more practical gift for the soon to be mom. So of course I quickly suggested something so very sensible… “You should give her the Angel Care Monitor, that is the perfect gift!” He left and went to go look for it, well it turned out that Target did not carry the Angel Care baby monitor so he decided he was going to give her the nursing cover that I was using and something else. He thanked me for my time and we parted ways.

Two minutes later after rethinking my suggestions, I came back to the baby department to find the soon-to-be uncle and change my suggestion of what I would give to a new mom…but he wasn't there anymore. Since yesterday I wished I would have told him what a new mom really needs and now this list has been spinning in my head and I need to let it out.

Gift # 1: Offer yourself to take care of the baby any day of the week so the new mom can take a nap, a shower or just read a damn magazine.

Gift # 2: Hire a manicurist to come to her home to do her nails and feet. Deliver the spa to her!

Gift # 3: Offer yourself to babysit so she can go out (even against her will).

Moms sometimes need to go out and feel like themselves. Even when you hear her saying something different, she does. She wants to feel more than a mom, but a pretty girl, a pretty woman. So, if you are looking for a great gift for a new mom, take it from a 3 month-old-mom…spoil her, she’ll thank you later.
